Women and girls with disabilities face intersecting discrimination based on both their gender and disability. They are often disproportionately affected by poverty, violence, limited access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, and are frequently excluded from decision-making. Our focus ensures these unique and often compounded challenges are addressed directly and effectively.

LAMICARE was founded by women with disabilities who experienced firsthand the compounded discrimination and barriers faced by women and girls with disabilities in Wakiso and surrounding communities. They saw a critical need for an organization led by persons with disabilities, for persons with disabilities, to directly challenge systemic exclusion and drive change from within the community.

LAMICARE DISABILITY RIGHTS ORGANISATION UGANDA  is a grassroots, women-led disability rights organization based in Wakiso, Uganda. Founded and led by women with disabilities, we work to dismantle structural discrimination and promote the full rights, dignity, and participation of persons with disabilities  with a particular focus on women and girls.

Our core work includes rights-based advocacy, pushing for inclusive urban development, and empowering persons with disabilities through leadership training and community mobilization.
