LAMICARE DRO Uganda: Championing Dignity, Justice, and Full Participation for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Uganda. Our Core Identity LAMICARE Disability Rights Organisation (DRO) Uganda is a grassroots, women-led, non-profit organization dedicated to dismantling structural discrimination and promoting the full rights and dignity of Persons with Disabilities, especially women and girls. Founded and led by women with disabilities, we center the voices of PWDs to drive true, sustainable inclusion and justice across all levels of Ugandan society. What We Do: Our Key Pillars of Action We are dedicated to transformative action across five core areas that empower PWDs and promote an inclusive society: Advocacy & Policy Reform: We work relentlessly to embed inclusive laws, processes, and systems, advocating for the full domestication and implementation of key legislation like the African Disability Protocol (ADP). Leadership & Empowerment: We enhance the skills, participation, and influence of PWDs through targeted leadership and mentorship training programs, building a pipeline of disability leaders. Inclusive Education & Sustainable Livelihoods: We develop and support programs that create equitable opportunities, foster independence, and improve the socio-economic well-being of PWDs. Promoting Civic Participation: We facilitate meaningful dialogue and collective action to drive social change and enhance the civic and political participation of PWDs. Building Strategic Partnerships: We collaborate with government bodies, civil society, and international partners to collectively advance Disability Rights and inclusion across the region. We believe that centering these values is the only way to build a society where every PWD is recognized, valued, and empowered to live without barriers.
